Dr. Boualem (Bo) Hadjerioua will be presenting on Mesa’s newly acquired small hydro technology at NHA Hydropower Week in Washington, D.C. during the “Water Power Innovation Showcase: Conventional Hydro and Marine Energy” session on Wednesday, March 13, from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM in the Senate Room.
The presentation will delve into the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) innovative technique of using surface water pumps to improve dissolved oxygen (DO) levels in turbine releases to meet the tailwater DO content’s limit requirements. Dr. Hadjerioua or one of his staff will present the findings from the proposed surface pumps.

There are five turbines installed in Mansfield, CT. This site is an independently owned hydropower generation facility. It houses five NuTURBINE LR-100’s, sized with 100 kW generators for a maximum total output capacity of 500kW. The site has approximately 17 ft of head and 450 cfs of flow. The choice of five 100 kW hydroturbines rather than fewer >100 kW turbines was based on using the optimal capability of the variations of the river to generate energy.

The NuTURBINE LR-100 was installed in a small site in Massachusetts. A singular NuTURBINE using a 100 kW generator was installed in 2014. This installation has in-excess of twenty- five thousand (25,000) operational hours.
