Nikki Vandergriff Mynatt, PMP, MBA

What is it like being in project management at an engineering company?

As an experienced PMP, my daily project management role is constantly evolving, stimulating, and challenging. I learn and grow daily through valuable hands-on experiences as I focus on absorbing new skills, seek constructive feedback, stay updated on progressing industry trends, and work to improve my communication and leadership abilities by actively engaging with project teams and stakeholders.

What made you go down the project management path?

I have always enjoyed creative problem-solving, finding effective workarounds, and encouraging teammates to excel. Project management allows me to practice these aptitudes and contribute to the overall goal while achieving individual and team success.

What would you say to kids wanting to make engineering/project management their future?

I encourage our younger generation to follow their dreams! Anything is possible when you apply yourself and push for excellence! I have been an active mentor for over fifteen years with Knoxville Leadership Foundation and currently serve on the Advancement Committee for Big Brothers Big Sisters of East TN. Therefore, I strongly encourage everyone to find a mentor! Regardless of age or career path, mentorship is a critical tool as it provides access to valuable guidance, experience, and invaluable support to navigate challenges, learn new skills, and achieve goals. With supportive mentor commitment, you will grow professionally and personally and feel empowered to take your engineering/project management career where you want to go!
